The prizes provide without charge all those items ordinarily covered by the program fee, including accommodation, all excursions, lectures, theatre trips, workshops and tuition, and half board meals.

The prize day started with a tour of the college by Milo a classics student, with ambitions to become a comedian. The gender ratio was very much in favour of girls, most markedly for the English prize where only one boy was successful in being highly commended.Essay Prizes and Competitions R.A.
Butler Politics Prize The R.A. Butler Prize for essays in Politics and International Studies is a competition that can be entered by students in Year 12 or the Lower 6th. The competition is now finished and winners have been contacted.
There were over entries to the Kelvin Science Prize, with 12 winning entrants winning £75 each. A further 5 essays were commended. There were over entries to the Vellacott History Prize, with 15 winning entrants winning £75 each.
A further 18 essays were commended. The Humanities Writing Competition is run annually for any Year 12 (or equivalent) students with interests in the Humanities. The competition will launch in October.
The Humanities Writing Competition is based on five objects from the College’s small antiquities museum. Every year Peterhouse College, Cambridge runs annual essay writing competitions in science, English and history.
Students must complete their essay outside of school, with titles set by the college. This year I decided to enter the history competition. Newnham College’s annual essay prize competitions are designed to encourage ambitious female sixth-form students to explore university-level subjects and themes and to develop their independent research and writing skills.
